William Jackson and Son Limited is a fifth generation family business which was founded in 1851 in Hull, where it is still based. William Jackson was Christopher Oughtred’s great, great grandfather. There are eight members of the fifth generation of the family who are shareholders, five of whom work in the business. William Jacksons operates predominantly in the food industry as:
· Specialist Bread Bakers – We are specialist bread suppliers to the food service market from our Bakery in Hull. We supply most British sandwich makers with bread, and also several in France, and the Netherlands.
· Frozen Food Manufacturers – From three factories in Hull, we supply “Aunt Bessie’s” frozen Yorkshire puddings, stuffing balls, dumplings, toad in the hole, hot desert puddings, traditional English pancakes etc. to most British food retailers. We are exporting Yorkshire puddings to Canada, Spain, Ireland and Australia. We launched Aunt Bessie’s family steak and chicken pies in October 2003.
· Jacksons Stores – This is a chain of 114 food stores “focused on convenience” – all open seven days per week (one 24 hours per day) with sales areas under 3,000 square feet and spread from Scarborough and Harrogate in the North to Leicester in the East Midlands.
· Kwoks Foods Limited - We have a controlling holding in Kwoks Foods Limited which makes chilled restaurant quality Chinese food from a factory in Grimsby and supplies several British Retailers.
